Quote of the Day for Thursday, 23 June 2022

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?

Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . . The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

If . . . if . . . We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more — we had no awareness of the real situation . . . . We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”
— Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago

Quote of the Day

“I’m enjoying the irony of American Sanders supporters lecturing me, a former Soviet citizen, on the glories of Socialism and what it really means! Socialism sounds great in speech soundbites and on Facebook, but please keep it there.”
— Garry Kasparov

Impeach the President?

I vote yes. While we’re at it, let’s impeach the Speaker of the House, the House Minority Leader and the Senate Pro Temp. In fact, let’s impeach every sitting member of Congress, their administrative assistants, the fat lady at the Dept of Education and every other bureaucrat making decisions on your behalf.

It’s time to throw the baby out with the bath water.

To paraphrase Pink Floyd —

We don’t want no trans-for-mation,
we don’t need your mind control . . .
Leave us folks alone.

Isn’t it funny how liberals tell YOU that you can’t have a valid opinion of climate change because “you aren’t a scientist,” and yet they make climate heroes of a former Tenn. politician whose only qualification is that his father was a Senator, a bunch of Hollywood actors who have no qualifications at all, and a 16-year-old kid who has openly admitted she is skipping school.

ANARCHY, n. The worst fear of every politician. A nightmare situation in which institutionalized violence, coercion, and extortion are replaced by free association, voluntary cooperation, and mutual aid. Fortunately, governments the world over maintain secret police, informers, provocateurs, prisons, execution chambers, and herds of obedient men armed with weapons of mass destruction to guard against this dreadful possibility.

Any culture which, in the interests of efficiency or in the name of some political or religious dogma, seeks to standardize the human individual, commits an outrage against man’s biological nature.
