[LPNM-NML] Editor’s Notes to Fill This Space

On the issue of Instant Runoff Voting: Remember that the legislation that implements this idea will be written by a Democrat-dominated Legislature. Considering the recent run of empire- and fiefdom-building that Wild Bill Richardson has been on since his inauguration, I’d trust him to sign something beneficial to the LPNM about as far as I can throw my car with a broken arm — not at all.

Another electoral issue that’s going to be pushed HARD by Democrats, especially those seeking Green votes, is the reprehensible idea of public (as in taxpayer-pays) campaign funding. This will establish the potential for some Aryan Nation candidate to come along and get money taxed away from black, hispanic and indian voters. Strangely enough, the Greens don’t seem to have much of a problem with this aspect of the issue when it’s pointed out to them, saying that “there needs to be more voices in the debate.” One of the first amendments up for a public vote in the Albuquerque-Bernalillo County unification charter will enact this if approved, and it will be done as “a test run” in the upcoming Public Regulation Commission races. Remember, this is the same outfit that lets its staffers peruse porn sites on the net while on your dime.

Those of you planning to run for State Legislature, County Commission, etc., I heartily recommend that you contact your county chair NOW. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of starting early, especially when it comes to dealing with the county clerk and the state Election Bureau. When you talk to these clowns, get everything they tell you backed up in writing. Video and audiotape recordings won’t hurt, either, but they’ll be less enthusiastic about being recorded.

That’s all for this month. Hope I get these damn computer problems sorted out before I have to resort to the 12-gauge repair job.
